There are plenty of short hikes to be had all over the Ocean State. But if you’re looking for a longer trek with plenty of varied terrains, the DuVal Trail is a great fit. At just over six miles round trip, this hike will get your blood flowing and treat you to splendid natural scenery while taking a trip past a long-forgotten cemetery.
Hike the DuVal trail system that spans several properties protected by the South Kingston Land Trust. Lace up your hiking boots, there are hills to climb and quite a few miles ahead of you.

History buffs will be interested in the old cemetery along the way. Names such as Browning and Perry can be found inscribed on the headstones in this burial ground.

While much of the hike is within the hardwood forest under a comfortable shaded canopy, there are some trickier spots to navigate.

Scramble up staircases made of natural materials and watch your footing to avoid stray roots.

Encounter large rocks and boulders throughout the trail system. These make a wonderful spot to take a little break.

One of our favorite parts of this hike is the fairy-tale like tree tunnel. The DuVal trail has pleasant surprises around every bend of the path.
