The Hike Through Bush Creek Preserve In West Virginia Is Simply Unforgettable

This preserve in Mercer County is home to many rare protected species of flora and fauna, and it is an opportunity to see nature at its most precious.

Brush Creek Preserve in Mercer County is protected by The Nature Conservatory, but is open to the public for hiking.

The preserve has many rare species of animals, from insects to birds, Warblers among them. This species of bird is most abundant during its migratory period in April and May.

Many rare plant species can also be found in the preserve, including the shale barren onion, Canada yew, white cedar and Canby’s mountain-lover shrub.

The preserve consists of a wide trail, adjacent to the Bluestone River, where you can view sandstone and limestone cliffs, and Brush Creek Falls.

The trail, lined with wildflowers, offers a great view of the falls and allows for easy access if you wish to get a bit closer. The Nature Conservatory asks that visitors do not remove anything from the preserve, and to leave the area exactly as you found it.
