The hotel was built in 1928 to accommodate both traveling salesmen and passengers of the Texas & New Orleans Railroad. This picture was taken in the 1940s, but doesn’t reflect what it currently looks like — major renovations were made in 2002 when the ownership changed.

Ever since remodeling begun, a number of strange occurrences have been reported: doors slamming all by themselves, footsteps running up & down the halls with nobody in sight, knocking on guests’ doors only for them to find nobody there… the whole nine yards. Perhaps the spirits are angry that their original home was destroyed.

Several artifacts such as the front desk still remain from the Ott’s earliest days. Several theories argue that it’s these ancient relics allowing the spirits to remain in the hotel.

So, who are the ghosts? They’re likely the restless souls of a couple who were shot by the wife’s lover whom she was having an affair with in the hotel. If you see a man in a black cowboy hat or woman in a billowy white nightgown, you’ll know you’ve found them.
