A post on Reddit asking for the secret experiences of flight attendants on planes has revealed that planes can be pretty disgusting places. Flight attendants insisted that older or infirm passengers sometimes defecate in the seats and aisles, passengers occasionally use the white head pillows as adult diapers, and many parents change infant diapers on the tray tables.

They also claimed that the floors of plane bathrooms are usually not wet with water but urine, and that the pockets on the back of seats are rarely if ever cleaned.

Attendants also cited the quick turnover time of flights and how things like tray tables and some carpeting might not be thoroughly disinfected before the next group of passengers arrive on the aircraft. One of the top pieces of advice attendants gave readers was “unless you need to remove your high heels in an emergency, never under any circumstances take your shoes off on a plane.”
