Last year, we highlighted Water Valley’s Watermelon Festival. But that’s not the only festival in the state dedicated to the deliciously sweet fruit. For the last 40 years, the tiny town of Mize has been hosting its own festival. Officially known as the Mississippi Watermelon Festival, the annual event offers small town fun for the entire family (in addition to lots of watermelon, of course). Take a look:

Now in its 40th year, the Mississippi Watermelon Festival takes place over a weekend every July. This year, it’s scheduled for July 20th – 21st.

Fun for the entire family, the two-day event features vendors, concerts, rides, games, a 5K run, and car show…

…and that’s in addition to a ton of watermelon-related activities, like Watermelon Eating, Seed Spitting, and the Biggest Watermelon Contest.

The festival is a great way to spend a summer day (or two). Remember to bring a chair, so you can kick back and comfortably sample some “delicious, ripe, world famous Smith County melons.”

Incredibly sweet and juicy, the fresh melon is sure to hit the spot on a hot summer day. Even better, festival-goers are treated to endless amounts of FREE watermelon.

But watermelon isn’t all you’ll find at the festival.

There are also several other food vendors. From festival favorites, like funnel cakes, to local favorites, like pulled pork, you definitely won’t go hungry.

Two children’s play areas, which include things like rides, a rock wall, and petting zoo, are sure to keep the younger ones entertained.
