Usually in order to be rewarded with a fantastic view at the end of the hike you have to sacrifice hours upon hours of strenuous activity. That’s not the case with this trail. The Stateline Lookout trail is quick and easy at just 1.5 miles long, and you’ll be treated to jaw-dropping views of Nevada’s crown jewel—Lake Tahoe. If you’ve been looking for an easy hike that boasts incredible views, then you’ll want to take advantage of the Stateline Lookout hiking trail at Crystal Bay. This trail boasts some of the best views of Lake Tahoe’s northern shore.

The trail is actually an old forest road and it’s paved the entire way. There is a slight elevation gain as you traverse the short 1.5-mile trail, but it’s definitely manageable. This is a great hike to do with adventuresome kids.

The trail begins to narrow as it takes you closer to the side of the mountain. You’re quickly surrounded by beautiful and towering pine trees as you make your way up the mountainside.

The trail starts in Nevada, but it actually takes you across the stateline (hence the name of the trail) into California territory. You’ll spot a placard commemorating the stateline not too far from an overlook bench along the trail.

You’ll find several placards along the trail containing information about the region’s history including Crystal Bay and Incline Village. Not only is this trail absolutely beautiful, but it’s an educational venture as well.

It’s not far after you cross the stateline that you come across the lookout over Lake Tahoe. This spot used to be the location of an old fire lookout tower that was taken down back in 2002. Today, it’s the location of a nice overlook area complete with picnic tables and bathrooms.
