Summer is a beautiful season in Cincinnati and one of the signs that we are nearing the start of a new school year and the end of summer fun, is a blooming sunflower field. Sunflowers are the universally loved flower that is magical on its own, but when you witness a full field of these yellow blooms, it’s downright enchanting. If you’ve ever driven around Mason this time of year, particularly past Cottell Park, then you’ve surely noticed the stunning sunflower field. Well, this beautiful field is now in bloom and you simply have to see it for yourself.
Cottell Park is located on the corner of Snyder and Irwin Simpson Roads in Mason and is a popular destination for family fun north of Cincinnati.

Right across from the park, a large sunflower field begins to bloom and the corner turns into a glowing, golden natural wonder. Those who drive by often turn their heads and make a mental note to look up this field, which is, indeed, open to the public.
The stunning field has been a summer tradition in Cincinnati for awhile now, and it’s crucial that we treat the field and flowers with the respect they deserve.

Photo Courtesy of Shanna Shelton When you choose to visit, don’t forget your phone and/or camera, park in a safe spot, such as the park parking lot, and gently make your way through the field. The nicer we are to the sunflowers, the longer they’ll be around for everyone to enjoy.
The sweeping views of the sea of yellow will surely take your breath away, but don’t forget to take a look up close.

Many visit the field just to take photos, and you’ll definitely find others there enjoying the blooms, or perhaps fitting in a family photo session.

Sunflower fields are often witnessed from a distance, so we are lucky to be able to experience this natural wonder up close, and just a short drive from downtown. But please remember that if you do visit, pay the utmost respect to the field and flowers, park in a designated lot, and do not cut any of the blooms.
