There seems to be no shortage of magnificent hiking trails in Mississippi. However, those aren’t the only kinds of trails you’ll find. In fact, the Magnolia State just so happens to be home to a one-of-a-kind biking trail that’ll lead you on an adventure like no other. Take a look:

This is the Tanglefoot Trail. Known as a “rail trail,” it runs along an abandoned railroad line.

A great way to see the state, the bike path spans 43.6 miles through the foothills of the Appalachians.

The conversion from a railroad line to bike trail included the addition of asphalt pathways and boardwalks, making the trail a bit easier to navigate.

Between the improvements made to the trail and an elevation that barely fluctuates, it’s a great path for riders of all ages.

Follow the winding trail through three counties – Chickasaw, Pontotoc, and Union. Along the way, you’ll be treated to the stunning sites of small town Mississippi.

Forests, trees draped in kudzu vines, fields of crops, lush greenery, and wildflowers are just a few of the beautiful views that line the trail.

To make your journey a bit more enjoyable, there are four “whistle stops” lining the trail. Each facility includes restrooms, water fountains, and picnic tables.

But mesmerizing scenery isn’t all you’ll find on the Tanglefoot Trail. The small communities of New Albany, Ecru, Pontotoc, Algoma, New Houlka, and Houston are all situated along the path.
