With as many spooky events as Minnesota has every year – we even have a haunted house at our state fair! – it should come as no surprise that there are more than a few creepy spots in our state. From the haunted bathroom at First Avenue to Forepaugh’s Restaurant in St. Paul, there are plenty of places that will send shivers down your spine. In fact, there’s even an entire town with a creepy past. Take a look:
From a distance, Mantorville, Minnesota, is a charming spot in southern Minnesota that would make a lovely day trip.

Its downtown area is lined with many historic buildings. One of its restaurants, the Hubbell House, is the oldest restaurant in Minnesota!

But this little town - founded in 1854 - is not just charming. Once you learn a bit more about its history, you may find it creepy.

The Star Tribune reported in 2016 that, according to the author of “Haunted Mantorville: Trailing the Ghosts of Old Minnesota,” Mantorville is the most haunted town in the Midwest per capita.

In other words, this town has more ghosts per person than any other place in the Midwest!

So what are its most haunted spots? For one thing, the old Opera House, built in 1918.

Among other things, flickering lights and disappearing items have been reported by some. Others claim to have seen a ghost dressed in Victorian garb.

The Restoration House, dating back to 1856, has its share of haunted history. Once the Dodge County Courthouse, it may be home to a ghostly entity who once occupied the basement jail.

Remember how we said the Hubbell House is the oldest restaurant in Minnesota? It should come as no surprise that this spot, too, is full of spooky stories. Tragic deaths on the property have led to rumors of ghosts.
