Long before sunset, you’ll create your own, individualized lantern. Write and draw whatever you want on it - hopes and dreams, the names of loved ones whom you want to remember, or statements that express your gratitude and joy.

As the sun sets, you’ll release your lantern into the water and watch it float away. Don’t worry - after the festival, workers will make sure that every lantern is gathered up, along with any trash along the waterway. Lanterns are made of wood and rice paper, so they’re also environmentally friendly.
