Whirlwind Ranch, outside of Lebanon, has been raising Alpacas since 1994. They have had over 350 Alpaca births at the ranch in the last 23 years.

On their quaint ranch you can visit with roughly 25 adorable Alpacas. Whirlwind Ranch is a great place to visit if you’re interested in learning about Alpacas and about all the amazing things you can use Alpaca fleece to make.

Alpacas can get quite fluffy before its time to sheer. Like sheep, Alpacas need to receive these annual haircuts for their health.

Each Alpaca can produce between seven and ten pounds of fleece per year.

The fleece is collected, cleaned, and spun into yarn. People love Alpaca fleece because unlike sheep’s wool, Alpaca’s fleece is hypoallergenic.

After the fleece is colored, the fibers are hung to dry. Then the various colored fibers are twisted together to make hanks of ready to use yarn.

In addition to selling beautiful Alpaca yarns, they also sell home and clothing items made from Alpaca fleece. They also offer classes on the ranch. You can learn how to raise Alpacas, sort and grade the fleece, or dye the yarn beautiful colors.
