Flowers will begin to bloom in April at the reserve, and will continue to bloom all throughout the spring and summer seasons. Bring the whole family out for this lovely Missouri wildflower hike.

When you think of beautiful flowers, the Missouri Botanical Gardens often comes to mind. However, their other lesser know site, Shaw Nature Reserve, should be your go-to destination for wild flowers.

The blooming season begins in early April. Winter Aconite is often the first flower to pop up after winter. It seems like the fields at the Reserve fill with flowers overnight.

Overlook trail takes you to a bluff for great views. Along the way, this lovely little trail takes you through a oak-hickory forest and a dolomite glade.

Blue bells fill the lush glade and make for a beautiful scene. They are typically at peak bloom in early April!

Another way to see blooms is along the Wildflower Trail. This easy trail is less than a mile and features some of the best native blooms.

The Shaw Nature Reserve is open year round from 7 a.m. until sunset. Admission is free for garden members and children, $for adults, and $3 for students.
