Every corner of Minnesota is dotted with charming towns filled to the brim with great activities, events, and people. It’s not hard to find new places to explore, and it gets even easier in a state with towns as charming as those we have in Minnesota. There’s one funky town in Minnesota that is a true hidden gem, and we think you’ll love it. Take a look:

New Ulm, Minnesota is a southern Minnesota town about 100-mile southwest of the Twin Cities.

Home to about 13,500 people, New Ulm is a mid-sized town known for its German heritage.

In fact, the town was named after the Bavarian town of Neu-Ulm when it was founded in 1854. In the century-and-a-half since then, the German roots remain firm.

In true German fashion, the town is known for its brewery. The August Schell Brewing Company is the second-oldest family-owned brewery in America.

An annual festival celebrates the brewery and the impact it has had on town.

There are many other festivals as well. If you’ve ever wanted to dance with a gnome, you’ll have your chance when you visit New Ulm during any of its fun community events.

Other parts of New Ulm nod at the town’s German roots, too. The Hermann Heights Monument – known locally as Hermann the German – is a symbol of German immigrants.

The charming 45-foot-tall glockenspiel bell tower also draws visitors.

If you’re looking for German food, New Ulm has you covered. Veigel’s Kaiserhoff is a popular spot.

There are many other great places to eat and shop in New Ulm’s downtown. It’s as charming as any street in Europe.
