The Ocean State undoubtedly has some incredible seafood joints. Mouthwatering clam cakes, stuffies, lobster rolls, and clam chowder are classic staples of our favorite restaurants. But there is one Rhode Island clam shack that has shown it can weather any storm and still consistently serve outstanding food.

Flo’s Clam Shack in Middletown was established in 1936 and was much smaller then than it is today. This seafood spot has battled Mother Nature to keep its doors open for more than 80 years.

The Hurricane of 1938 demolished this Rhode Island clam shack early in its history, but it was reconstructed. Hurricane Carol in 1954, Hurricane Donna in 1960, Hurricane Gloria in 1985, and Hurricane Bob in 1991 all hit Flo’s Clam Shack hard causing the restaurant to rebuild again and again, but we are so glad they did!
