In the summer and early fall, when the waters of Thompson Falls is running strong, it’s beautiful. But, the beauty is only a portion of what makes it so great. What we love about it is that it’s relative obscurity makes it feel like a hidden gem.

The falls can be found about a mile from the bottom of the ski area at Wildcat Mountain. But, while people have meandered around the area for a long time, an official trail was only created in 2011.

This has helped keep the area less-visited and unspoiled. And, in a place where nature is a huge attraction, it’s nice to find the spots that feel new.

The waterfall is actually a series of falls, that total about 150 feet in length. The last one, into a clear, cool pool of water, is a whopping 20 feet of pure beauty.

Throughout the year, you can also see stunning Mt. Washington through the trees, making this one of the most New Hampshire nature destinations around.

If you visit on a warm day, be sure to bring a bathing suit and towel to cool off in the pool.

If you visit in mid-fall, the water will be slower, but the view of the falls and surrounding area is no less impressive.
