Swimming pools and water slides can be fun during the summer months. But if you’re more of a nature lover, this natural outdoor water playground is a stunning spot to cool down during the hottest months of the year. Awesome rock formations, waterfalls, and an epic swimming spot await in small-town Vermont.
Three Holes is a unique natural swimming spot on the Trout River in Montgomery.
Flickr/Mike Mahaffie The area got its common name, Three Holes, from the three waterfalls that cascade into three pools. This natural oasis also has an alias and is sometimes called Trout River Falls.
Each of the three pools has distinct characteristics, you can decide where you want to spend your time.
Flickr/Mike Mahaffie The largest waterfall feeds the upper pool which has the most space for swimming. It is surrounded by tall cliffs on either side so it’s often shady. This is the best spot for jumping off the rocks. The second pool is fed by a smaller 8-foot waterfall and is a small place to sit in the water and relax.
Jump into the fresh clear water and enjoy a swim, the lower pool is the most popular spot.
Flickr/Mike Mahaffie The third of the pools is below a 6-foot waterfall and has a good sized swimming area. Splash around or stretch out on a large boulder and enjoy the beauty all around.
Three Holes is found just outside of Montgomery Center.
