The biggest cities around the state of New York generally aren’t the first places that you think of when it comes to going hiking, but those of us who have grown up here in Buffalo know that the Queen City is home to some pretty spectacular and scenic strolls. Bringing you right near the Outer Harbor, the gorgeous and historic Tifft Nature Preserve is home to our city’s most wonderful hiking trail.

Easy to find out by the water in Buffalo, the Tifft Nature Preserve instantly greets visitors with unique views and overlooks.

The nature preserve is over 260 acres and is made up of a lake, ponds, and beautiful marshes that are amazing to explore and enjoy.

It’s the perfect place to go when you’re looking for peace and quiet and the entire preserve features over five miles of hiking trails.

While you’re exploring the preserve, you’ll see an abundance of deer roaming through the area.

Many people visit the preserve to do some wildlife watching and observe all the beautiful birds that live here.

But one of the most unique things about this preserve is the boardwalk trails that will take you out into the marsh and onto the water.

If you walk past the Visitor Center and the northern shores of Lake Kirsty, you can choose to walk along the 0.2-mile-long Heritage Boardwalk Trail.

The beauty continues if you choose to explore and hike out along the 0.5-mile long Boardwalk Trail that leads you to scenic spots like the Marsh Observation Mound and the Viewing Blind.

In total, the preserve features three beautiful boardwalks that will take you right out into the heart of the park’s amazing scenery.
