History whispers throughout Valley Forge National Historical Park, the former winter encampment of General George Washington and the Continental Army in 1777-78.

Of course, the park features numerous historical spots, including the Issac Potts House and Washington Memorial Chapel.

But, not all spots have completely survived the passing of centuries. Embark on the Horse-Shoe Trail, a 140-mile hiking trail that crosses through Valley Forge National Historical Park.

Follow the yellow blazes that will lead you up Mount Misery. (Be prepared for a sometimes steep climb.)

As you climb Mount Misery, you’ll pass by the ruin of a former bottling plant, often hidden by the blossoming trees.

Snap photos of the ruins, which still boast some walls and frames where windows once sat. Colonial Springs also runs through the bottling plant’s remnants.

After you return from the ruins, explore more of the park. Head out on other hiking trails. Tour the park by trolley or by car. Or, spend time viewing the artifacts at the Visitors Center.
