Today, we bring you an even lesser-known swimming hole that requires quite a hike but will be well worth the effort. The aptly-named Emerald Pond near New Market boasts clear and unbelievably refreshing water. You may just have to experience it for yourself.
Bird Knob Trail is a gorgeous trek through the George Washington National Forest that offers hikers an immersive experience in the wilderness rewarded by an unbelievable swimming hole.

Along the way, you’ll want to follow the white-blazed Bird Knob Trail as it winds through the lush forest and eventually arrives at a gorgeous overlook of the Harrisonburg Valley.

Continue the descent towards the old logging road and after .1 miles, you’ll reach a beautiful clearing. Tucked away in a small hollow of the trail awaits one of the majestic swimming holes in the state.
