But while the giants like Flathead Lake and Lake McDonald captivate our attention, it’s easy to forget about those hidden gems that hire a hike to reach. Sioux Charley Lake is one of those treasures, and it’s well worth the trek.
Sioux Charley Lake is located in the Custer National Forest near Nye.

The trail is an easy in-and-out hike that’s about 6 miles in length.

The river makes the journey to the lake much more pleasant.

The trail does get steep after the first few miles, climbing about 180 feet above the lake.

While fishing is permitted at the lake, you’d mostly be releasing more than you kept.

There are a few campsites near the lake, and Woodbine Campground is located near the trailhead.
