Life gets hectic and stressful for many reasons. Sometimes you just need to spend a couple of days in a nice, slow-paced spot that happens to look like the pages of a storybook. The next time you need a weekend of relaxation, just head to one of our fairy tale towns.

  1. Port Townsend

Port Townsend Main Street Program Facebook Surrounded by water and mountains and filled with old Victorian buildings, Port Townsend is the definition of a fairy tale town. It also has a little bit of everything – dining, shopping, history, hauntings, and miles of beach.

  1. Poulsbo

Andy Nystrom / Flickr Washington’s Little Norway is undeniably charming, from the painted murals to the vintage red phone booths. Between the bakeries, the pubs and microbreweries, the shops and the boardwalk, you’ll fall in love with this waterfront town.

  1. Waitsburg

Gary Paulson / Flickr Waitsburg is a tiny town just north of Walla Walla, and visiting feels like stepping back through time. In addition to being a historic gem, it aso happens to be the only community in our state that still operates under their own Territorial Charter.

  1. La Conner

Love La Conner Facebook You won’t find a more blissful place that La Conner on a warm, sunny day. A town where the vast majority of dining and entertainment is located right on the Salish Sea is nothing short of magical.

  1. Winthrop

Karen / Flickr Perhaps Winthrop feels more like being in an Old Western than a fairy tale, but either way, you’re sure to have a blast in this peaceful Methow Valley town.

  1. Friday Harbor

J. Stephen Conn / Flickr Every last inch of the San Juan Islands is incredible, but there’s something truly special about Friday Harbor. Aside from the fact that it’s surrounded by water and therefore feels totally peaceful, the antique shops, bookstores, cafes and eateries in the downtown area are amazing.

  1. Leavenworth

Visit Leavenworth, WA Facebook This list wouldn’t be complete without our biggest fairy tale town of all, the Bavarian village of Leavenworth. Between the mountainous surroundings, the European vibe and all the authentic German decor (and food), sometimes a weekend in Leavenworth is better than Disneyland (no offense to the Magic Kingdom).

We’re so lucky to have so many dreamy towns in Washington we can get lost in. And if it’s time at the beach you need, you can always head for the coast.
