Maryland has so many state parks, it can be hard to decide which to visit first, or which ones actually have something a little different to offer. The following spot is scenic, historic, and has a tunnel of trees that not many people know about. Looking like it’s straight out of the south, Chapman State Park is an underrated gem that we recommend exploring this summer.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll forget you’re in Maryland. This area was once a former plantation and the tunnel of trees leading to the main house is a gorgeous sight to behold.

The grounds are expansive with much to explore, but most people pull out their camera for this beautiful view.

At the end of the tunnel of trees you’ll arrive at Mt. Aventine Mansion, which dates back to the 1700s. It was home to the Chapman family until the early 1900s.

Keep exploring and you’ll discover a little cemetery where some of the Chapman family still rests.

And since this spot is located waterside, you can walk down to the water and take in the sights. Don’t forget to hike the area trails as well!
