Here in Virginia, we cherish our state park system. These designated natural areas offer recreation, education, and solace in nature that’s simply priceless. That’s why the news of yet another incredible state park to be added to the list is nothing short of epic. Widewater State Park is Virginia’s 38th official state park and will cover 1,100 acres along the Potomac River in Stafford County. Here’s everything you should know about this magical new park:
Virginia’s newest state park is located about an hour and a half from Richmond and less than an hour from Washington D.C.

The park was developed in three phases by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.

During the first week of November, Governor Northam officially opened Virginia’s newest state park. Widewater State Park is now open to visitors who wish to explore the beautiful banks of the Potomac River.

The park is also bordered by the scenic Aquia Creek. Visitors who wish to explore the waterways will enjoy the park’s two access points for canoes and kayaks. In fact, one of the campsites will be paddle-in only.

For those more eager to stay on dry land, there will be plenty of additional camping spots as well as a trail system for hikers.
