We love coming across places that look more like faraway tropical paradises or scenes from Tarzan than Texas, and luckily there are quite a few – not to mention the ones that have yet to be discovered. Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve in Austin is hiding a breathtaking waterfall, and the best part is that it only takes .2 miles to reach! See for yourself:

Part of Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, Wild Basin spans over 200 acres of breathtaking Hill Country woodlands. 2.5 miles of trails run through the park, and a Creative Research Center teaches you all about the unique animal and plant life you’ll see along the way.

As the sign said, a mere .2 miles stands between you and a gorgeous, roaring waterfall you probably didn’t even know existed. It’s the perfect summer hike for when it’s too hot to spend lengthy amounts of time outside!

Since the trail is so short, you’ll have plenty of time to relax and listen as the falls trickle down and cascade into one another before crashing into the pool underneath. Visit soon after heavy rains to ensure the waterfall will be flowing at its maximum potential.

The hike only takes about 10-15 minutes each way, making it a great introduction to nature for even your littlest tikes. They’ll be begging you to take them on more adventures after seeing this amazing place!

If you want to explore the rest of the park, all the remaining trails only add about an hour to your trip. This panoramic view from a hilltop so quiet you could hear a pin drop definitely makes the extra time worth it a million times over.

If you want to experience this hidden gem for yourself, it’s located at 805 North Capital of Texas Highway Austin, TX 78746. It’s a summertime activity for the whole family to partake in.
