Long before humans walked the earth, dinosaurs called Wyoming home – and there’s still plenty of evidence they left behind. If you’re interested in learning about Wyoming’s dinosaur history, there’s no better place to go than the town of Thermopolis.

The most famous dinos who live here include “The Thermopolis Specimen”, the only Archaeopteryx outside of Europe, a Supersaurus named “Jimbo” who is one of the largest dinosaurs every mounted, and “Stan”, a 35-foot T-Rex.

Where do all of these dinosaurs come from? Well, most come from dig sites near Thermopolis! Now, thanks to the WDC’s “Dig for a Day” program, you can visit the dig sites and try your luck and finding some prehistoric treasures.

For years, the Wyoming Dinosaur Center’s paleontologists have been inspiring future scientists and delighting dino enthusiasts by bringing them out to one of the nearby dig sites.

You’ll spend the day working to unearth real dinosaur bones for a live dig site - there aren’t many places in the world where you can do just that!

Staff and visitors have removed over 10,000 bones from these excavation sites, including fossils from long-necked sauropods like diplodocus and apatosaur. One of the sites was hunting ground for Allosaurus!

You never know just what you might find out on a dig with the Wyoming Dinosaur Center. Any fossils found will be added to the WDC collection to show the world what Wyoming’s past looked like.

Anyone who finds a fossil will have their name recorded for all to see in the WDC’s bone registry. Digging for a day is your chance to make history!
