How far would you travel for a good piece of pie? How about for the best pie in the state? In Wyoming, how far you travel depends on how close you are to the nearest Cowboy Café. One of the few restaurants in Dubois and among the even fewer open for more than a handful of years, it’s the place locals go for a heavenly slice of homemade pie. When we say “locals,” we mean Wyomingites in general. It’s well-known all over the state that the best pies ever can be found in this tiny Wyoming café.
The original Cowboy Café is located at 115 Ramshorn Street in Dubois.

It was purchased in 1993 by a local couple who re-vamped the menu to serve a selection of homemade fare such as chicken fried steak and stroganoff.

The breakfasts are legendary, too. The biscuits and gravy are to-die, and the Cowboy serves up gigantic pancakes chockfull of chocolate chips or smothered in a cinnamony-sweet caramel apple sauce.

However, the pies at the Cowboy Café are the stars of the show. People not only drive miles and miles for a slice, but they also place orders for holidays and special occasions.

The food, in general, and the pies, specifically, are so delightfully tasty that more Cowboy Cafés have been opened in other Wyoming locations. Even so, the pies are still homemade by hand in Dubois and shipped out to the other two restaurants.

The newer additions are larger than the original café, but Dubois is the original and still the place to get the best pie you’ll ever taste.
