Love ghostly stories? Like this hauntingly harrowing tale about a lighthouse in St. Augustine? The following tale in particular is as creepy as it gets…and if that isn’t enough—the photos that accompany the story are just as spine-chilling.

The story behind one of the creepiest, most sinister dolls in Florida dates back to the early 1900s.

Robert Eugene Otto, fondly known as Gene, was given a gift from the family maid—a straw-filled doll to keep him company.

The doll, which was life-sized, was beloved by Gene and brought everywhere by the child.

He even named the doll after himself, calling him Robert.

Rumor has it, however, that something seemed off within the house once Robert the Doll came to live.

For instance, servants in the home would hear Gene having conversations with Robert and two very distinct voices being heard.

The family would wake up in the middle of the night to Gene screaming, finding his entire room turned upside down, which was blamed on Robert.

Mischief began wreaking havoc in the household, and Gene would always say Robert was at fault.

It wasn’t until reports of hearing Robert giggling throughout the house and neighbors even seeing a small doll running from window to window that things began to unravel.

Robert the Doll was moved to the attic out of fear, where he remained by himself for years.

To this day, visitors can see Robert the Doll in person at the Fort East Martello Museum in Key West, Florida.

However it should be known that if any visitor takes a picture of Robert the Doll without his permission, a curse will be cast by Robert himself.
